TS-464 or DS923+

#1
Hi,

I'm looking for a 4bay NAS, I just can't make a solid choice. I'm a Plex User, but Plex Media Server is installed on mine MacPro / future iMac M3. So no transcoding is needed on the NAS.

I want to keep mine personal data (Time Machine backup), movies, TV shows and music files on the NAS. And stream the files to the client side, I als have a Dune media player.

Safety and durability is for me key, I have some knowledge about configuration a QNAP, I now have a very old 639, which still works but I never use anymore (to slow)

Would in mine user case the 923+ a better option then the 464?

thks in advance for your advice and many thanks for the splendid YT content!

best regards,
Pieter

Thanks for reaching out! Considering your needs for a 4-bay NAS with a focus on safety and durability, both the DS923+ and TS-464 are solid options. However, for your specific use case as a Plex user with transcoding handled by your MacPro or future iMac M3, the DS923+ seems to be a better fit. It excels in streaming videos locally, even handling 4K content. If you plan to stream remotely via Plex, please note that both the DS923+ and TS-464 are limited to 1080p transcoding. For seamless 4K transcoding remotely, you might want to explore options like the TVS-h674 with a 12th Gen i5. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. And thanks for the shout-out on our YT content! Happy NAS hunting!
