PLEX On SYN DS920

#1
Thanks so much for instruction vid on setting this up PLEX on NAS.

I was using NAS for Content storage and running Plex server on Windows PC.

I have 2 questions

1. Created new server on SYN DS920 and all worked fine with the exception of Music. Plex can find any albums. Have pointed to correct folder and granted permission to Plex to R/W. Not sure how to trouble shoot. TV,movies & Pictures worked fine.

2. Is there any way to copy metadata (predominately on watch I have watched) from windows Plex server to NAS plex server.

There was a help on plex around copying all meta data but thought this might cause issues because directories ( although both same physical location) are described differently in windows OS & NAS OS

Thanks is advance for any help you can provide

Music Library Issue: If your Plex server on the DS920+ isn't recognizing your music files, even though you've pointed to the correct folder and granted the necessary permissions, there are a few things you can check. First, ensure that your music files are in a supported format for Plex (common formats like MP3, FLAC, and M4A are usually fine). Additionally, check your music folder structure to ensure that it's organized properly. Plex relies on metadata, so having your music files properly tagged can make a big difference. It's also essential to ensure that your Plex Media Server on the DS920+ has the necessary metadata agents enabled. You can adjust these settings in your Plex server's settings, under "Agents" within the "Library" section.

Copying Metadata: Transferring metadata from one Plex server to another can be tricky, and you're correct that differences between the Windows and NAS file systems can sometimes cause issues. Plex's built-in tools for metadata transfer may not work perfectly in such cases. However, you can attempt to copy the metadata manually. In your Windows Plex server, locate the metadata folder, which should be in a directory like "Plex Media Server > Metadata." Copy the contents of this folder to your Synology DS920+'s Plex server metadata directory, ensuring that you maintain the directory structure. You might encounter some challenges, so it's a good idea to back up your metadata on both servers before attempting the transfer to prevent any data loss.

Please note that transferring metadata manually may not always work perfectly due to differences between Windows and NAS file systems, as you mentioned. If this method doesn't resolve the issue, you may need to rebuild your music library on the DS920+ Plex server, especially if the metadata structure is significantly different.
