Remote access via VPN

#1
I've recently set up my QNAP NAS but have not enabled the cloud access, due to the vulnerabilities I have read about/ seen YouTube vids on.
I see that people suggest if you *must* access remotely then a VPN is the way to go. My problem is that neither my modem (Virgin Superhub 3, modem mode) nor my mesh router (BT Wholehome) allow VPNs to be installed. Is there a neat solution for this or am I looking at buying new hardware?
I did see a product called the InvizBox2 - does anyone have any experience with it, or know how well it works? Where in my set up would such a thing go? Between modem and router, or between router and QNAP?

You do not need to install anything on a router in order to access Qnap. You can use Tailscale which is free, fast and secure.
