New synology from QNAP and DS923+ doubt - Enquiries - 05-19-2023
Dear Guys,
I read your blog every time that I can, above all now that I need to substitute my QNAP TE-453 Pro.
I want to migrate to Synology brand because of hackings to QNAP and to try the DSM experience.
My principal use is storage, multimedia (plex, no transcode) and a VM for occasional use.
I was focused on DS923+, I read your tests but I can’t decide.
In Synology blogs I read of users that found problem using photo station with the CPU always at 90% of usage for the GPU lack while organizing images and videos (thumbnails, …).
That’s a problem for me because I want to syncro all smartphones images in the NAS to have a centralized photo album ed use the application AI to find/organize them.
Did you had that kind of experience during your tests?
If DS923+ is not the right one, on which model do you think I should go for?

We had no problems with it.
But DS923+ is not a popular NAS for multimedia. Ryzen is not good at transcoding. But for local streaming it is OK.
Otherwise consider DS423+.
