WD Red SN700 as primary NAS disks - Enquiries - 05-07-2023 The WD Red SA500 is made as a primary NAS (e.g. for Synology NAS) SSD instead of HDD. In addition, there is the WD Red SN700, an NVMe drive that is also made for NAS. There is no price difference between the two drives, but there is a speed difference. My question is, can the WD Red SN700 be used with an NVMe to SATA adapter? , The NVMe drive is then limited to SATA 600 speeds, but can be faster in random 4K, Q32 read/write. Furthermore, is a cache disk still required if this works? RE: WD Red SN700 as primary NAS disks - ed - 05-12-2023 There is NVMe to U.2 adapter or M.2 SATA to 3.3inch SATA adapter. But I have never seen NVMe to SATA. Here is the list https://www.qnap.com/en-uk/product/compare-accessory?tab=customizedrive You could get a USB / NVMe enclosure and PCIe NVMe SSD cards. But not SATA. |
