A second NAS or add expansion - Enquiries - 03-12-2023

I already have a Synology DS920+running happily with 4 x 16TB Ironwolf pro HDD and 20GB RAM, but I want to make use of a pile of 4TB Ironwolf HDDs I have spare. Hopefully simple question: DX517+ expansion unit, or a separate NAS, such as another DS920 or a DS923?
Primarily backup and media serving to 2.5gbe network.

Yes, you could either get an expansion unit and pop those drives in. Or you can get another NAS. An expansion will allow SHR drive mixing to get more space (with dsm7 can not add smaller drives than existing individual size in a NAS). The other NAS can be even cheap j series NAS. It might be similar price but more functionality.
