NAS Recommendation - Enquiries - 02-13-2023

Hi there,

I have a QNAP TVS-671, upgraded to 16GB and the CPU to i7-4790s with 6 x 4tb WD RED's . I use it for PLEX currently but i now want to run a couple of VM's so i can run my Trading algos. I tried creating a VM with250gb disk, 4GB ram and 2 cores and running CTrader but found it all abit sluggish even though i never saw it saw it using more than 45% of the memory and CPU' allocated so not sure why. I am thinking of now upgrading maybe going to a 4bay but with larger 8tb or 10tb drives,..... any suggestions on an upgrade path ?,.. i am unsure how old the i7 ia m suing is considered or what performance i would see with the newer cpus ?. I dont really want to be paying over £1000 either but maybe something with M.2's would help ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Based on your requirements, I would recommend upgrading to the QNAP TVS-h674-i5-32G. Its Intel Core i5-12400 processor is a significant upgrade from your current i7-4790s and should provide much better performance for running VMs and trading algos. Additionally, the support for NVMe pools and GPU card support can also help improve performance.

As for the drive capacity, the TVS-h674-i5-32G supports up to 72TB of storage, so you can definitely upgrade to larger 8TB or 10TB drives. And with the NVMe support, you can take advantage of faster storage speeds for improved performance.

The cost of the TVS-h674-i5-32G is around £1300, which is slightly above your budget. However, the performance improvements and features it offers make it a worthwhile investment in my opinion.
