First NAS choice - Enquiries - 02-03-2023 I work with geotechnical engineer who has about 3TB of work data (drawings, reports, numerical modelling, spreadsheets, soil tests, survey, etc) who needs to move from various cloud services to a decent NAS structure. My personal computer is a Mac and a lot of my work is done on Windows PCs. The main uses I would like to get out of my NAS: - File server with cloud access and version history - Photo library (it is my hobby and I have ~50GB of photos on (paid) Google Photos - Book library (as a researcher and consultant I have ~100GB of books, conference proceedings and whatnots that I would like to organize on a Calibre or Kavita environment - Reference management storage (Mendeley or Zotero) - Possibly a movie/series library from downloaded files, unlikely 4K for now. As for the book library, I will need Docker, so it seems DS220j is not my best option. Should I go for a DS220+? Maybe something better? Please help, I am getting lost in videos. RE: First NAS choice - ed - 02-03-2023 Based on your needs, I would recommend going for a Synology NAS with more power and storage capacity, such as the Synology DS220+. This model has the performance and storage capacity to handle your large data requirements, as well as support for Docker which you need for your book library. Value series indeed do not support docker. https://www.synology.com/en-uk/dsm/packages/Docker?os_ver=7.1&search=ds220+ In addition, the DS220+ supports cloud access and version history, photo library, and reference management storage, making it a comprehensive solution for all your needs. This model will provide good performance and a stable environment for your data, and is a good option for both Mac and Windows users. Also, you get Active backup for business https://www.synology.com/en-global/dsm/feature/active-backup-business/pc |
