What to chose to replace a Drobo 5N2? - Enquiries - 01-05-2023 Like the feature of the Drobo 5N and 5N2 that you just insert a drive to add more drive space. And you can mix and match drive sizes. Is there a Synology NAS that has that feature? I keep seeing recommendations for the Synology DS1522+ But I don't know how to add more disk space to it. What do you recommend for easy disk space additions? RE: What to chose to replace a Drobo 5N2? - ed - 01-05-2023 Yes, Synology Plus series models allow drive mixing similar to Drobo. To add a drive to a Synology NAS that is using the Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) configuration, follow these steps: Power down the Synology NAS and physically install the new drive in an empty drive bay. Power on the Synology NAS and log in to the web-based management interface. Go to the "Storage Manager" app and click on the "Volume" tab. Under the "Volume" tab, you should see the existing SHR volume listed. Click on the "Action" button for the SHR volume and select "Expand". A window will appear showing the available drives that can be added to the SHR volume. Select the new drive that you just installed and click "OK". The expansion process will begin and may take some time to complete, depending on the size of the new drive and the amount of data on the SHR volume. Once the expansion process is complete, the new drive will be added to the SHR volume and the total storage capacity of the volume will be increased. I hope this helps. |
