Help with a plex setup - Enquiries - 02-17-2025 Stumbled across your awesome site. I want to build a home nas setup primarily for hosting movies and shows for us to stream through plex on a xbox series x and 4k apple tv at home. 12tb to start and growth would be nice. Streaming quality atleast at 1080 or higher . Im big on redundancy and data protection loss. We would also use it as a minimal file and photo backup location. RE: Help with a plex setup - ed - 02-21-2025 Thanks for reaching out! For your Plex setup, I’d recommend a NAS with a good balance of storage, processing power, and redundancy, especially with 12TB of storage and room to grow. For 4K streaming, you'll need a NAS with strong transcoding capability. A Celeron or i7 with integrated GPU can handle basic transcoding, but for the best experience, especially with multiple streams, it's ideal to have a dedicated GPU. Models like the QNAP TS-664 (64 series) or QNAP TS-674 (74 series) would be a great choice, as they offer PCIe slots that allow you to add a dedicated GPU for better 4K transcoding. With redundancy and data protection in mind, make sure the NAS supports RAID (or a similar redundancy method like SHR) to safeguard your data. Both the TS-664 and TS-674 support this, ensuring your files and photos are protected. |
