TerraMaster F4-424 - Enquiries - 12-28-2024
I have set up the NAS f4-424 and have it connected to the network and have set up the volumes and started to move files into a PLEX folder but every time I have o shut it down to adjust hardware I am getting notification about abnormal shut down. I am holding the power button down until it goes dark but is there a better way to shut it down? Also is there a way to move the TOS software from one of the Hard Drives to on of the NVMe M.2 drives?

The abnormal shutdown notification occurs because holding down the power button forces the NAS to power off without completing system processes. This can lead to file corruption or data loss.
To shut down your TerraMaster NAS properly:
Use TOS (TerraMaster OS) Interface:
Log into the TOS web interface.
Go to Control Panel > Power Management > Shut Down.
This ensures all services and processes close safely before the system powers off.
Mobile App/Remote Access:
If you’re using the TerraMaster mobile app, you can also shut it down remotely via the app’s power management options.
Physical Button (Safer Option):
Tap (don’t hold) the power button briefly. Some models, including the F4-424, interpret a quick tap as a soft shutdown command.
The NAS will safely shut down after saving any ongoing processes.
2. Moving TOS Software to NVMe M.2 Drives
Currently, TerraMaster NAS systems install the TOS operating system on the first volume created (usually on your hard drives). Unfortunately, as of now, you cannot move TOS to the NVMe M.2 drives.
However, you can optimize the use of NVMe drives in two ways:
Cache Acceleration:
Use the NVMe drives for SSD cache to speed up frequently accessed data, especially for Plex. You can configure this in TOS > Control Panel > Storage Management > Cache Settings.
Choose read-write cache for best performance if you have redundancy elsewhere.
Dedicated Volume:
If you aren’t using the NVMe drives for cache, consider setting them up as a dedicated volume. This is ideal for high-speed operations, like storing the Plex database or transcoding cache, which will improve streaming performance.
