Thank You - Enquiries - 11-23-2024 Just wanted to thank you for your excellent channel which helped me no end when purchasing and setting up my new Synology DS923+ NAS server. I have an old Drobo 5D which I want to replace with a current Hardware Raid DAS to be used as a back up for my NAS server. I have 5 x 4Tb 3.5 drives from the old Drobo which I can use in the new DAS. Any recommendations for a 4-6 bay unit. Once again many thanks. Cheers John RE: Thank You - ed - 11-28-2024 Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad the channel has been helpful to you in setting up your Synology DS923+ NAS. Now, regarding your need for a DAS (Direct Attached Storage) to replace the Drobo 5D for backing up your NAS, here's a recommendation that should work well with your 5 x 4TB drives and your backup needs. Recommended DAS Units for Backup (4-6 Bay) 1. TerraMaster D5-300C Price: ~$300-350 Features: 5-bay DAS supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, and JBOD. USB 3.1 Gen 2 for fast data transfer (up to 10Gbps). Ideal for backup purposes with your 20TB storage capacity and the option to expand as needed. Compatible with your existing 4TB drives (RAID 5 or 10 would work well for redundancy). 2. OWC ThunderBay 4 Price: ~$600-700 Features: 4-bay DAS with Thunderbolt 3, perfect for users with high-speed data transfer needs. Can support 4 x 4TB drives, and offers excellent backup performance. Provides RAID support and the ability to swap out drives if you want to expand later. Thunderbolt 3 offers faster data transfer compared to USB-based options, if you have a compatible Mac/PC. |
