NAS Upgrade - Enquiries - 10-26-2024 To Whom It May Concern, Hi, my name is Lance and I had a quick question about which model of QNAP to buy. I am looking to upgrade my 451+ model and need a faster processor and more expandability without having to buy a external expansion module for now. The two models that I have been looking at are the TS-464 and the TS-873A. I do not run many apps on the server but would like more performance and the ability to expand without purchasing something else, until I need to. I have watched both Youtube videos on the models and they seem fairly close and even compared the processor speeds on cpubenchmark.net and they are fairly close as well. From your expertise, which model would you recommend, as I do not want to spend the $1,000 now and just go with the TS-464 but will spend the extra money for the 873A if you think it is worth it now or even wait if QNAP is about to do a refresh on either of these models. Any help would be appreciated and have a great weekend! Thanks. RE: NAS Upgrade - ed - 11-01-2024 Thanks for reaching out! I appreciate your question about upgrading your QNAP NAS. Between the TS-464 and the TS-873A, I would recommend the TS-873A if your budget allows for it. While both models are solid, the TS-873A offers a more powerful AMD Ryzen processor and greater expandability, including more RAM slots and support for additional storage options. This will give you better performance and flexibility as your storage needs grow, especially since you mentioned wanting to expand without external modules down the line. If you're primarily focused on performance and future-proofing, the TS-873A will be a worthwhile investment. However, if you feel your current needs are modest and you’re primarily using it for basic file storage without running many applications, the TS-464 is a great choice at a lower price point. As for QNAP refreshes, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on new releases, but it can be hard to predict when new models will come out. If you need something now and can comfortably afford the TS-873A, I’d say go for it. |
