Videography NAS for mass storage and access - Enquiries - 10-22-2024 Need storage solution for 4k video RAW files for clients of videography business. Currently using home PC HDD, USB drives (20TB worth and counting) and Gdrive for sharing links with clients. Need to access and edit on Adobe software from various locations on a laptop using Wifi. (Is home internet speed relevant?) Have done research but each disadvantage seems to soil all other advantages, Synology usability being on old hardware for example. Terramaster F4 Max looked promising... not a clue beyond this. Thank you so much for helping me out with this Robbie and Eddie! Leon RE: Videography NAS for mass storage and access - ed - 10-24-2024 Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you’re in need of a robust storage solution for your videography business, especially with all those 4K RAW files. Let’s explore some options that could meet your needs. 1. Storage Needs: Since you’re currently managing around 20TB of data and require access to edit your videos on Adobe software from various locations, a NAS will be a significant upgrade. It will help centralize your storage and streamline access for you and your clients. 2. Home Internet Speed: Your home internet speed is important here. Having a higher upload speed will enhance your ability to share files and access them remotely. Aiming for at least 100 Mbps upload speed will help ensure smooth operations with large video files. 3. Recommended NAS: I recommend looking at the Synology DS923+ with a 10GbE network card. This setup will give you excellent performance for video editing and quick file sharing, thanks to its high-speed connectivity. Plus, Synology's DSM software is user-friendly and offers great features for managing your media library. Alternatively, you might consider the QNAP TVS-473A. This model allows for GPU upgrades, which can be beneficial for video editing tasks, especially when working with 4K files. The TVS-473A also provides excellent performance and versatility for your videography needs. Both options should fit well within your budget of 500-1000 GBP and will offer the performance and features necessary for your work. |
