Zero Infrastructure Direct Connection - Enquiries - 04-28-2024 Can you please advise me on how to connect a DS923+ to a PC WITHOUT any local network or internet? Like the only thing the PC and NAS are connected to is themselves. Imagine a scenario where you're trying to connect your PC to a DS923+ where all wireless infrastructure is not functional. I watched your video using the mapped drive system and ISCSI, although the video was good, your laptop was still connected to the WiFi, so the connection worked off that. I tried to do this by having an ethernet line only between the PC and NAS and by turning off the WiFi of both the PC and the NAS. I was unsuccessful, but I think I am missing something that could make it work. I also looked into creating a virtual DHCP server via my PC and making it work that way, but I couldn't do so since I couldn't find a DHCP program that was safe to use/didn't look very sketchy. Could you please advise how to do the wired-only connection or how to create a connection with a virtual DHCP safely? Thanks. -Joe RE: Zero Infrastructure Direct Connection - ed - 05-03-2024 Sure, I can help you with that! To connect your DS923+ directly to your PC without any local network or internet, you'll need to create a direct Ethernet connection between them. Here's how you can do it: Direct Ethernet Connection: Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the LAN port of your DS923+. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port of your PC. Configure Network Settings: On your PC, go to Network Settings. Select the Ethernet connection you just established. Configure the IP address settings manually. For example: IP Address: 192.168.1.1 (for PC) Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: Leave blank DNS Server: Leave blank Save the settings. Configure DS923+ Network Settings: Access the DSM (DiskStation Manager) interface of your DS923+ using a web browser. Go to Control Panel > Network > Network Interface. Select LAN 1 or the LAN port you connected the Ethernet cable to. Configure the IP address settings manually. For example: IP Address: 192.168.1.2 (for NAS) Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: Leave blank DNS Server: Leave blank Save the settings. Verify Connection: Once configured, try accessing the DS923+ from your PC using its IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.2) in a file explorer or web browser. |
