Enclosure for Ex-NAS harddrives - Enquiries - 02-17-2024 Hi storage experts From a Synology NAS I am retiring two IronWolf HDDs (not IronWolf Pro) and I would like to use one or both drives in an enclosure as local USB storage for my Mac. (Ideally I'd use both HDDs a RAID 1 set in that USB enclosure.) I don't want a NAS going over the network, just plain direkt USB storage. Can you recommend an enclosure for this? Many thanks, Walter RE: Enclosure for Ex-NAS harddrives - ed - 02-23-2024 the QNAP TR-002 2-Bay NAS Expansion Module Enclosure is a good option for expanding the storage of your QNAP NAS or PC. It has the following features: Two 3.5-inch SATA drive bays that support both HDDs and SSDs. Hardware RAID 0 and 1 support for data redundancy and performance. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C connectivity for up to 10 Gbps transfer speeds. Hot-swappable drives for easy maintenance. Disk modes: Individual, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1 System, fan, and drive failure monitoring with LED and audio alerts. System sleep during USB cable disconnection and host device hibernation or shut down. I really appreciate you replying here! The QNAP is a bit too pricey for me. Maybe I drop the RAID feature: What are then good standard USB enclosures for Ex-NAS drives? |
